There are two parts in the recipe of making Dal Dhokli – Dal and Dhokli. Let’s start by making Dhokli first, followed by the Dal and then mixing both together to make a delicious dish.
a) The Dhokli recipe of Dal Dhokli starts with making a dough. To make the dough of dhokli mix the following ingredients - Wheat Flour, Chickpea Flour, Carom Seeds, Turmeric Powder, Red Chilli Powder, Coriander Powder, Salt and Oil. Mix and add water to make stiff dough.
b) Divide the dhokli dough into lemon size balls. Roll them out to a thin circle of up to 8cm diameter. Cut the dhokli into your preferred shapes. Now, move on to the next step of making Dal Dhokli that is the dal. To make the dal, first boil the Surti madhi toor dal. The ratio of Surti madhi toor and water should be almost 1:2. Once the dal is finely cooked, use a hand blender to completely mash into a soft texture.

d) Now add the dal and mix nicely.
e) To the cooked Surti madhi toor dal add boiled peanuts, lemon juice, salt and sugar. Let this cook up to 10 minutes before you add the dhokli.
f) Add the dhokli and cook for further 10 minutes. Keep stirring in between during the entire course of Dal Dhokli recipe.
